Motor Starting Study

Motor starting studies are necessary when large-sized motors are part of an electrical system. Motor starting simulation takes various power system events into consideration, such as device switching, bus faulting, protective device tripping, and load shedding.

A detailed report including simulation plots, calculated voltage, current, speed, power, torque, and frequency is provided.

The purpose of the motor starting study is to ensure the following:

Voltage drop on motor terminals is within acceptable limit during starting condition
Ability of the motor to reach full speed under full-load conditions, based on motor data
Contactors do not drop off and ATS’s do not switch to emergency power during motor starting
Coordination of overcurrent and undervoltage protection devices is preserved
